Kingston

This spring break my team and I from the BCM of Virginia Tech (6 students, 1 mentor) have joined up with another team from the University of South Carolina (12 students, 1 mentor) in aiding a church with their international student outreach ministry at Kingston College in the United Kingdom.

You may be wondering why we are travelling all the way to London to reach internationals when we could easily do that here in Blacksburg with so many foreign exchange students. I asked the same question when I initially heard of the trip, and quickly the Lord began to show me last semester of the clear need in Europe for passionate Christians who are younger in age and can relate to college students better than older missionaries.

God has already been showing up in our time here in Kingston. While Jet Lag and nasty rain has kept our whole team awake for over 30 hours and at times grouchy, our team has pulled together in many ways in unifying and already have begun building relationships with some of the Kingston College students through a small hangout we had just a few hours ago!

The first that came to mind when thinking of today was John 15:5 – “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.” Nothing we do for these students will be of true value unless we seek the Lord first and foremost. This is hard because a ton of our time in Kingston will be simply conversations with nonbelievers, which can be hard to see immediate fruit in. The beauty of this passage is that Jesus promises fruit whether or not we see it. I pray our team latches on to this truth this week.

I should be updating regularly this week, please continue to follow!
